Art21: Art in the 21st Century, Season 9
Art21 presents content about contemporary art, featuring the artists of our time. This is our second time working with them on the creative direction and typography for the Peabody Award-winning series ART21: Art in the Twenty-First Century, which airs on PBS. Season 9 is presented in three parts and reveals the stories of twelve innovators in visual art—and, in a series first, a nonprofit art center—including: Creative Growth Art Center, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Olafur Eliasson, David Goldblatt, Katy Grannan, Nicholas Hlobo, Hiwa K, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Zanele Muholi, Susan Philipsz, Robin Rhode, and Stephanie Syjuco.
Working closely with composer Joel Pickard, 100+ hours of footage were edited down into the frenetic opening sequences for each episode plus the series' trailer seen at the top of this page. Supporting typography (people, places, + things) within the episodes expands the typographic system and supplies a no-nonsense narrative structure.
